Free places to share your new project

Where makers often share a new project, and how to be a good neighbor in each place.

Your project is ready for its first visitors. Here are places where makers often share what they built. Each place has its own rules, and they change. Read them first, every time.

Flying Ideas

Post your idea once a day with a link. People can visit, like and comment.

Product Hunt

A daily list of new products that people vote on. Read their guide before you launch.

Hacker News (Show HN)

Share something you made in a “Show HN” post. Read the Show HN rules first: they want things people can try.

Indie Hackers

A community of people building their own businesses. Share what you are building and what you learned.

BetaList

A site about new startups, often before or around launch. Check their submit page for how it works.

Reddit r/SideProject

A forum for side projects. Read the rules of the group before you post.

X with #buildinpublic

Share your progress in public with the #buildinpublic tag, and talk with others who do the same.

LinkedIn

Tell your network what you are building. A short story about why you started often reads better than an ad.

Be a good neighbor

  • Read the rules of each place before you post.
  • Be honest about what your project is and is not.
  • Reply to comments, also the hard ones. Say thank you.
  • Do not ask friends to upvote. Many sites do not allow it.
  • Do not post the same text everywhere at once. Write for each place.
